#12 : Paris terror and defeat ISIS

This is very sad and somber. Too many innocent people died in Paris. Some are saying the terror caused by an isolation of the Islamic group in France. However, it could not be the key reason for this horrible disaster. No matter what takes, this kind of catastrophe should not be happened again.

#11 : Voting ban on prisoners convicted of serious crimes is lawful, EU court rules

There could be so many pros and cons on this issue, so it is quite difficult to give an opinion and controversial. As I mentioned in class, I don’t think that serial killers who got life sentence or more deserve the right to vote because they took other’s right to live happily.
However, prisoners who commit minor offenses need proper human rights. The problem is tax payer would not agree on this. That’s why this is quite difficult to decide either side of opinions.

#10 : Korean history textbook issue

Last topic was about Korean history textbook that it will be published by government. This is very controversial issue in Korea, but the president seems not to listen the citizens at all. I don’t understand why she is insisting to proceed this weird plan. As I said in the class, it is one way of dictatorship. I think this is ridiculous.

Topic for the 7th week(IKE 1106): Gun Control in the U.S.

Recently, there was a mass shooting in US again, so I tried to read the article on that. Then, I was curious why it still happens continuously? Obama also ask the congress to change the law, but it seems quite difficult. After this class, I realize that it is related to money, big money. It is really sad that some people put his/her value on money instead of others’ lives. Pitiful Americans….

Regulating Smart Phone Usage While Walking (Midterm Topic)

Regulating Smart Phone Usage While Walking

Recently, a pedestrian in a car accident sued the driver and demanded medical expenses, but the pedestrian lost the case as the court concluded that the accident was due to the pedestrian's carelessness from looking at his phone. The number of such car accidents owing to the use of smart phones while crossing roads has been increasing. Also, it was reported that over 95% of citizens had used smart phones at least once while they are walking. Some foreign countries such as the U.S or China have responded to the issue by prohibiting pedestrians from simultaneously walking and using phones, or running campaigns to raise awareness of the dangers. Some states in US started regulating smart phone usage while walking in spite of an opposition from many people.

In this regard, I would like to say we need specific regulations for smart phone users as well.
First of all, in Korea, accidents caused by the usage of smart phone when people walk have been dramatically increased comparing to any other nations in the world. This is a severe problem, but no one seems notice it. Too many patients are headed to hospitals because of those accidents, leading to waste medical insurance premiums.
Second, we have to aware that pedestrians have to keep eyes forward when they cross roads. This is a basic responsibility as a pedestrian. However, people do not fulfill their duties. To regulate the usage of smart phone can give them an alert.
Opponents might think this is an invasion of privacy. This problem goes way far severe and increased than just leave it as an individual issue. Too much money is wasted, too many people are injured or killed. We should not let this vicious circle continue. It is time our government to act.

Top interpreter reveals life in translation

Top interpreter reveals life in translation
The topic of week#6 was interpreter. Ms. Choi jung hwa is the top interpreter in Korea as the first generation of Korean interpreting industry. I also read a book that she wrote, it was really inspiring for me. At that moment, I might have a dream of becoming an interpreter.
Before I came GSIT, it wouldn’t that much easy. However, it has totally changed. It is really tough for me now, but I do not want to quit. Due to that, I admire Ms. Choi of her commitment as an interpreter.

Beijing in lockdown for China's World War II military extravaganza

It was quite interesting story and gave me a chance to think about the relationship between China and US. As a one powerless 'shrimp' status, Korea has to watch the power flows. I don't think that China become the only world leading country, but for sure it will become one of the powerful nation in the world.

The Refugee Crisis

Review )

I did't realize it's that much critical and serious issues among the European countries. As a one citizen of economically developed nation, I feel duty to do something for them. I think Korea should accept those refugees in humanitarian efforts. It is good news that there are more than 700 refugees asking to migrant to Korea.

VOA News
Ten people have been reported dead and an unknown number of others are missing after a fishing charter boat capsized off the southeastern South Korean coast late Saturday night.
The South Korean coast guard said the 9-ton boat named Dolphin was found Sunday morning near the resort island of Jeju, hours after it left the nearby island of Chuja and lost radio contact.
The coast guard said three people have been rescued and flown to a nearby hospital.
One survivor told Yonhap news agency that the boat capsized "in an instant" due to strong waves. He said he and other survivors climbed on top of the capsized boat and held on for more than 10 hours before being rescued.

A manifest showed 22 passengers traveling on the Dolphin, but at least four of those listed were not onboard at the time of the accident, and one of the survivors was not on the list. Dozens of military and civilian ships are searching the surrounding area for more survivors.
Yonhap says South Korean President Park Geun-hye has ordered officials to "do everything possible for the search and rescue of the missing."
South Korea is still mourning last year's sinking of the Sewol ferry off the southern coast that killed 300 passengers, many of them school children. Critics blamed lax safety measures and oversight for the tragedy.
